Anne Heetderks

When I was a young girl I used to mow the lawns of our neighbors in Hayward, California to make some money. Early Saturday morning I would wheel our push mower out of the garage and begin my route. Then, with my lawns finished and some cash in hand, I would walk to the mall near our home and head toward the art supply store. Brushes, paints, colored pens, lovely paper, manuals, compasses, leather art cases--they all awaited me there and I could spend hours dreaming of owning them all. Now, every morning I walk into my classroom at Westminster Christian School and find all of those things I longed for when I was a young girl waiting for my students and me. My goal is to excite my students into discovering the creativity within them. I also desire to help them produce works of art that are not only worthy of being hung on the refrigerator door but perhaps framed and hung in a place of honor. After graduating from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan with an Education degree in English and Fine Arts, I went on to enthusiastically teach sixth grade for eight years in Anchorage, Alaska. That is where I met my husband Doug, who also teaches here at Westminster Christian School. Our mutual love for investigating the wonders of God's creation, discovering new places and cultures, and delighting in the joy of family has made for a lovely twenty years of marriage. It is a story of God's persistent leading and direction that we came to be living in Miami with our two girls, Annika and Elise. We are thankful that God provided the wonderful community of Westminster Christian School in which we can work and educate our children.
