NASSP AWARD FOR LEADERSHIP: The National Association of Secondary School Principals sponsors the NASSP Award for Leadership for a senior who ranks in the top 20% of his class and who has demonstrated leadership potential.

DAR GOOD CITIZEN: The Daughters of the American Revolution honor a high school senior each year that has demonstrated the traits of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

US ARMY RESERVE NATIONAL SCHOLAR/ATHLETE AWARD: The US Army recognizes a male and female senior who demonstrate excellence in both academics and athletics.

NAVY ROTC SCHOLARSHIP

HOBY: The Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership organization recognizes and develops leadership potential among 10th grade students nationally. Each year Westminster selects a student from our sophomore class to represent our school at one of the HOBY Leadership Seminars.

FURMAN SCHOLARS AWARD: Each year, Furman University in Greenville, SC recognizes members of the Junior class who rank in the top 5% of the class and who have a composite score of at least 125 on the PSAT test.

FHSAA ACADEMIC ALL-STATE TEAM: The Florida High School Athletic Association honors seniors who have successfully combined excellence in varsity interscholastic athletics with exemplary academic achievements in the classroom during their high school career. To be nominated, students must have at least a 3.5 GPA and have earned a varsity letter in at least 2 FHSAA sanctioned sports during each of the last 2 years.

DAANS: Each year DAANS, The Dade Association of Academic Nonpublic Schools, honors Star Students. The student should be an exemplary student - one who sets an example for others to follow whether in the home, school or community. The student should have excelled in one or more of the following areas: academics, community service, citizenship, fine arts, athletics, or student activities.

KODAK YOUNG LEADERS AWARD: The Eastman Kodak Company and the University of Rochester sponsors the Kodak Young Leaders Award to recognizes outstanding achievement by sophomores and juniors. These are students who exhibit excellent academic achievement and strong leadership skills.

WENDY’S HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN: This program recognizes students who are high achievers in academics, community service and athletics - those who can truly be considered role models by their peers.

TOYOTA COMMUNITY SCHOLARS AWARD: Toyota Motors offers renewable scholarships valued at $10,000 and $20,000 over 4 years to outstanding seniors for excellence in academics and for making meaningful service contributions to their schools and their communities.

UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER: Each year The University of Rochester sponsors two award programs for HS juniors. The first is the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award for excellence in math or science. The recipient is eligible to be considered for a Bausch and Lomb Scholarship at the University of Rochester totaling over $25,000.

The second award program sponsored by the University of Rochester is the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award in Humanities and Social Sciences. We are allowed to nominate one outstanding junior who exemplifies the spirit of these two individuals and demonstrates a commitment to understanding and addressing difficult social issues.

PRESIDENT’S EDUCATION AWARD PROGRAM: Honoring student achievement and hard work is the purpose of the awards Program. Since 1983, the program has provided individual recognition from the President of the United States to those students whose outstanding efforts have enabled them to meet challenging standards of excellence.

Seniors - based on their GPA and college admission test scores - they have a 3.5 GPA and either an SAT or ACT reading or math score above the 85%ile

Juniors - a minimum 3.5 GPA and at least an 85%ile reading or math score on the PSAT

Sophomores - a minimum 3.5 GPA and at least 85%ile reading or math score on the PLAN or PSAT

Freshmen - at least a 3.5 GPA and 85%ile or above on the reading or math portion of the PSAT

MIAMI ELKS OUTSTANDING GRADUATING SENIOR AWARD: Each year the Miami Elks Lodge #948 presents an award to their Student of the Year.

ROBERT C. BYRD HONORS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: This program was established by the US Congress to provide scholarships to outstanding high school graduates who show promise of continued academic achievement; it is sponsored by the Florida Department of Education. Each high school may nominate only one applicant. The nominee chosen has the highest index, arrived at by multiplying the cumulative unweighted grade point average by his/her ACT score.

SALUTATORIAN and VALEDICTORIAN:
Salutatorian is defined as the one having the 2nd highest scholastic rank in the class.

Valedictorian is the one ranking highest in the class in scholarship.
