The College and Career Planning Department at Westminster Christian School exists to promote and enhance the learning process, enabling all students to achieve success in school, to acquire the information they need to gain entrance into the postsecondary institution best suited to their individual goals, and to develop their ability to serve as ambassadors for Christ.
Colleges want to see an interesting involved student, committed to a project, a church activity, a service, a team, or an activity. Colleges look at ninth grade grades and curriculum. They matter as much as grades later in high school.
Looking Toward College - The State University System of Florida is comprised of thirteen schools. When you apply, most schools will calculate your GPA based on your grades in the core academic courses in grades 9 through 12. Bonus points for Honors and Advanced Placement courses will be determined at each school.
As a Freshman you will take the PSAT for practice. This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the rigorous requirements of college admission testing.
Summer is the perfect time to invest in activities (missions, camp, sports, travel, volunteer, enrichment programs) that you may build upon in your high school years - and add to that High School Resume.
Petersons (http://www.petersons.com/summerop/) is a great website for finding summer programs. The Guidance Office has a filing cabinet full of summer program resources. Come by any time and take a look. You will be given a Resume Work Sheet to record all your awards, activities, and service projects to assist you in writing your High School Resume at the end of your Junior year.
