The 5th Grade/Middle School Beginning Band primarily consists of 5th grade students who wish to continue band after 4th grade. The class is also open to 5th grade students and Middle School students that desire to study a band instrument for the first time. Greater emphasis is placed on music reading skills and performance of independent parts. The band performs annual Christmas and Spring Concerts and at Elementary Chapels.

The 4th Grade Beginning Band meets twice per week. Students learn basic performance techniques on their instrument and work primarily on tone production and learning songs by rote in the first semester. In the second semester, more emphasis is placed on music reading skills. The band performs annual Christmas and Spring Concerts and at Elementary Chapels.
