Drawing and Painting I is a one semester course open to grades 9 -12. Students learn to apply the elements of design using media such as graphite, charcoal, ink, watercolor, acrylic paint, printmaking and more.
Drawing/Painting II
Drawing/Painting II is a one-semester course in which students refine their skills and techniques using the elements and principles of design to create drawing and painting compositions. Students participate in contests, visit museums, and travel to scenic vistas on assignment. A prerequisite of a B+ or better in Drawing and Painting or a department recommendation based on the student’s portfolio is required.
Drawing/Painting III
Drawing and Painting III Honors is a one-semester course in which students extend their skills while developing their creative vision and expression in drawing and painting compositions. Students participate in contests, visit museums, and travel to scenic vistas on assignment. A prerequisite of a B+ or better in Drawing and Painting II is required.
Art Honors
Formal and conceptual themes are explored. Students make informed, creative and critical decisions as they produce art while working inside and outside the classroom developing technical skills. Field trips to museums and pertinent locations are included in the curriculum and students are required to maintain a sketchbook for homework. Department recommendation and B+ average in high level art classes are required.
Art Portfolio Honors
Students must continue to produce quality two-dimensional art during an intense one-semester course which includes working in and out of the classroom. They must maintain a sketchbook for homework, participate in critiques, and travel to museums for enrichment. Department recommendation and B+ average in high level art classes are required.
AP Studio Art
AP Studio Art is an intensive one-year program for highly motivated students. A department recommendation and a B+ prerequisite in high level art classes are required. Students work outside the classroom, beyond scheduled periods, and maintain a sketchbook. Field trips to museums and other locations are required. Students build a three-section portfolio which is submitted to the College Boards for college credit.
