Volunteers Reflect on Warrior Week

WCS Parents Terri Zarrello and Brent Jones, and WCS alumni Cookie Meireles '75
After selflessly giving up a week of their lives and serving more than 500 teenagers at Warrior Week, these volunteers overwhelmed us with their words of gratitude for the experience. We are so grateful to them, and in the words of HS Principal David Medder, "Thank you! We cannot do what we do without you! You guys and all who worked behind the scenes are the best!!"
From Terri Zarrello, current WCS parent and alumni parent, who has served four years as Warrior Week's amazing photographer:

Another amazing week! Again, I wish every parent would go and experience this week for themselves. My daughter made fun of me because she said every time she saw me in chapel I was crying. I told her they were tears of joy.

I am eternally grateful to God for guiding us to WCS and giving my children a safe haven, a home and an extended family. LOVE LOVE LOVE the theme of Family this year! I have to tell you, during Jake's first week of school, one morning on the way there, he thanked me for the sacrifices he knew we were making to send him to WCS because he loved it. Four years later when he walked off the baseball field after his last game as a Warrior, he gave us both a giant hug and his first words to us were thank you, thank you for finding Westminster and bringing me here. I was so happy and proud of him because the magnitude of how lucky he was wasn't lost on him. His gratitude was genuine and his love for his WCS family is great. WCS is our safe haven, our home away from home and our family.

From Brett Jones, WCS parent, who has served in the kitchen at Warrior Week for two years:

Truly an amazing week of "serving!" It is such a blessing to witness our students, teachers, staff and parents energized, engaged, having FUN, worshipping together, leading, serving, playing, communicating, helping each other, building bonds and creating new friendships!! Thank you WCS for the opportunity to be part of the greatest "1st Week of School" anywhere in the country! Here's to an AWESOME year!

From Cookie Meireles, WCS Class of '75 and former teacher, who served for the first time:

I had the honor of attending Warrior Week 2016. I waited 10 years for my WCS 2nd graders to be juniors and seniors to attend this fabulous event. I had previously only witnessed these events on the Warrior website and wanted to experience it and serve my former students before they moved on from WCS. I was moved by the beautiful environment and how open the students were. It is a memory that I will cherish forever! thank you to WCS for allowing me to witness, again, the power of God in a beautiful setting with beautiful people!
