Westminster Kicks Off Its First Ever Esports Team

This week, Westminster gathered both virtual and on-campus high school students to form the school’s first ever esports team. The students will form part of the PlayVS High School Esports League, a platform for amateur esports competitions.
The world of esports consists of competitive, organized video gaming leagues that require extensive skills in teamwork and communication. It's an industry that is continuously growing and is represented in all 50 states. Currently, over 100 universities and colleges have a varsity esports program, which is governed by the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE).

At Westminster, a room has been remodeled to fit the needs of the team. The school has also provided the technology necessary for esports and Dade Technology Solutions, a sponsor of the team, donated the gaming desks and chairs. At this time, the team is still hosting tryouts and will be recruiting additional members. A special thank you to Spencer Swindoll, the team's coach, Omar Valerio, Westminster’s CIO/CTO, and Ben Warren, our athletic director, for working to make this possible.
