Juan Rondeau '27 to Represent Miami-Dade at the Scripps National Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Juan Rondeau '27 for winning this year's annual Miami Herald Spelling Bee! He will represent Miami-Dade County at the Scripps National Spelling Bee on July 8 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
On Thursday, March 18, Rondeau competed virtually against 14 other Miami-Dade students. According to the Miami Herald, this year's competition began with an online test. Out of 53 students in Miami-Dade, Juan Rondeau was one of the top scorers and, therefore, was chosen as a finalist for the Miami Herald Spelling Bee. He won with the word lobscouse which, according to Miriam-Webster, means "a sailor's dish of stewed or baked meat with vegetables and hardtack."

At 8 years old, Rondeau came to the United States from Argentina with his family. His mother, Carolina Rossi Viz, says he loves to compete in spelling bees and is very excited to represent Miami-Dade at the national competition. Juan Rondeau, his father, says that they are also very excited and proud of Juan.
