Model UN Students Shine at FIU Conference

This month, 12 students participated in a virtual conference for Model UN hosted by Florida International University. The students were challenged to find solutions for climate change, bioterrorism and human rights violations.
They also put their debating, writing and resolution skills to the test by portraying real and fictional policymakers discussing the future of education in America, the Russia of the future, the fate of the Revolutionary War and the fate of a fictional future controlled by a secret society.

In the end, our students took home two awards. Camila Valdes '23 and Manuela Londono '23 received Honorable Mention awards in their committee, Organización de los Estados Americanos, a Spanish-only speaking dual committee, representing Belize on the topic of human rights.

Kyle Glynn '22 received a Verbal Commendation award for portraying William Alexander in the Washington's War Cabinet committee which dealt with the Revolutionary War.

Student participants also included Valeria Lay-Bernal '22, Adriana Romanelli '22, Florencia Romanelli '22, Angel Sajous '23, Sophia Ibanez '22, Emily Diaz '24, Eduardo Bolanos '23, Alexander Elejabarrieta '23, and Dawson Medina '24. A special thank you as well to Miss Lisa Hamming, the club's sponsor.
