ES Students Start the Year by Praising God in Chapel

John Bishop, Director of Spiritual Formation
Standing at the entrance of the new Lighthouse auditorium, you would have seen a stream of smiling eyes and a kaleidoscope of motley-colored face masks streaming by as kids quickly moved to their seats for the first chapel of the year. In a word, it felt like, “Anticipation!”
“Are we ready for praise and worship?”

“YEAH!!” echoed the voices of our Westminster elementary students. From PK3 to fifth grade, we started the year off well with the thing that really makes us special as a school, our focus on exalting God above all else.

Each year the elementary school chapel team chooses a mascot to represent the school theme. This year our mascots are Elijah and Esther and their two babies Eve and Enoch.

“Did you know, eagles are mentioned 34 times in the Bible?” asked ES Counselor Kim Brigham as she began.

“Often,” she continued, “they represent God and His protection over us. Can anyone tell me what makes an eagle special?”

“They’re strong.”

“A symbol of the USA.”

“They eat fish,” came the excited and engaged voices of kids glad to be back in school and excited to be together.

God Delivers is our theme for the year, and it comes from Psalm 34:4 which says, ‘I sought the Lord and He answered me, He delivered me from all my fears.’”

We believe that God, like an eagle, spreads His wings over His people and shelters them in times of storm. Because we can trust Him to deliver us, there is no reason to fear. His name is a strong tower and the righteous run to it and are safe.

Whether you were super nervous sending your little ones to school, or excited to get them back into the routine, we’re honored you allowed us to partner with you in raising them in Christ.

If this week’s chapel is any indication of how the year will go, God has big plans for your kids this year.
