Middle School Students Collect Thousands of Canned Goods for Haiti Earthquake Victims

Each year, Westminster's middle school student council chooses a cause and a charity to support. In light of the devastating earthquake in Haiti on August 14, which left more than 12,000 people injured and destroyed nearly 53,000 homes, students have partnered with Friends of Humanity, a nonprofit organization that was formed in response to the desperate need in the northwest region of the country.
Following the partnership, student council held a food and clothing drive from August 30 to September 10. With the help of fellow classmates, parents and teachers, nearly 4,000 canned goods, including baby formula and nonperishable foods, were collected. Families also donated clean clothes and baby diapers.

"The students also prayed for their brothers and sisters in Haiti and really learned the meaning of Hebrews 13:16 which says, 'Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God,'" said John Chenet, student council faculty advisor.
