Finally, brothers and sisters, focus your thoughts on things that bring life! As you head into summer break, you’ll have more time on your hands. Don’t just let your mind wander aimlessly. Instead, take control of your thoughts and train them to obey your command.

When you find yourself wondering why your friends haven’t called, or you see that they had a party and you weren’t invited, don’t focus on the offense. Redirect your thoughts to the things you love about your friends and even consider sending them a message to let them know how much you appreciate them. When you start remembering frustrating events that happened to you this year, don’t let those thoughts drag you down. Instead, make a plan for how you can rise above them. Choose to focus on the things that empower you, not the things that defeat you.

For every negative thought or reason to feel cynical, there are a thousand reasons to give God praise. Remember, the way we choose to think has a powerful impact on the way we experience life. The Apostle Paul writes in Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Let that be your guide this summer.

This summer, take time to rest, reflect, and grow. Fill your mind with thoughts that uplift, that honor God, and that bring life to your soul. I pray that you are blessed this summer, and that you return refreshed, renewed, and ready for another great year.
