Ten Westminster Students Awarded with Academic Honors from College Board
Ten Westminster students have earned academic honors from the College Board’s National Recognition Programs. Congratulations to the following students: Isabella Artiles, AJ Gonzalez, Alexander Gambrell, Megan Gutierrez, Angel Sajous, Daniel Fernandez, Daniela Corradine, Diego Olivo, Lucas Diaz and Mario Solorzano for being awarded National Hispanic or African American Recognition through College Board.
Westminster Taps Sanchez to Lead School’s Advancement Efforts
Westminster has named Monica Sanchez as director of advancement. She comes to Westminster with more than 20 years of experience in non-profit fundraising and in the marketing/advertising industry. Most recently Sanchez has been working as an advancement consultant at Westminster lending her expertise to the annual fund, donor relations and events related to the 60th anniversary celebration.
Sisters Lili Diaz-Silveira '22 and Bianca Diaz-Silveira '24 were both selected to be included in the 2022 National Art Honor Society (NAHS) Juried Exhibition. The NAHS received a record number of submissions, 1,665 to be exact, from across the United States, and only 200 were selected for inclusion.
Westminster Announces Largest Financial Gift in School History
At a press conference on campus, alumni parent John H. Ruiz and family announce a $10 million donation to Westminster, the largest gift in school history.
The $10 million gift supports Westminster’s vision for excellence and innovation both in the classroom and in the athletic arena. The donation will fund the development of a premier high school athletic complex that will feature state-of-the-art technology, data and analytics, a cutting-edge strength and conditioning facility, as well as sports medicine capabilities. The new athletic complex is part of Westminster's strategic plan to improve its facilities. The school will continue to raise money and finalize plans for this athletic complex over the next year or so.
WCS alumni currently studying at MIT headed a panel for SWENext, a club at Westminster dedicated to introducing women to the world of engineering. The panel took place virtually and featured Sara Fernandez '19, Brejah Upton '18 and graduate student Debbie Yu.
Westminster Families Gather Thanksgiving Food for Those in Need
This year, Westminster families from the high school and elementary school campuses came together to collect Thanksgiving food items for those in need. The high school campus was asked to bring items such as mac & cheese, rice, mashed potato, pasta and other canned goods.
Congratulations to Westminster's Theater students for their outstanding performances at the 2021 District 8 Thespians competition. The cast of the one-act play, the “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!”, received straight Superior ratings and qualified for States. These students are:
