WCS Community Celebrates the Grand Opening of the Doug Heetderks WorldWonder Nature Center

The WorldWonder Nature Center overflowed with excitement and eager guests on Friday, August 9, for the official ribbon cutting ceremony, in honor of WCS longtime teacher and visionary Doug Heetderks. The Nature Center and the plans for the surrounding grounds are born from Mr. Heetderks' vision and passion to blend science education and exploration with the outdoors. At the ceremony, students and parents marveled at the modern construction and beautiful wood beams within the Nature Center, and at the sliding glass doors that provide a view to majestic oaks and future walking paths, aviary, pond, bridges, fire pit, tortoise terrace seating area, varied forests, and so much more.
Thank you to the many WCS family and friends who made donations to bring the Doug Heetderks Nature Center to life.  In addition, we are grateful to the leadership of the WCS Board of Trustees and admininstration who supported this vision. Stay tuned as the grounds around the Nature Center continue to be developed this year.

The Doug Heetderks WorldWonder program has been the experiential learning component of the life sciences curriculum at Westminster Christian School for approximately 15 years. Thank you, Mr. Heetderks, for all that you do to enhance student learning at Westminster!
