Important PSAT/NMSQT Information for Students

On Thursday, Oct. 12, all students in grades 9 through 11 will take the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), an important test that provides many benefits that can help on the path to college.

The NMSQT only applies to juniors. The standard testing time is approximately two hours. We ask that you do not schedule any appointments outside of school on this date so all students are present as no make-ups will be administered. Please remind your child to complete updates and charge their Surface fully before coming to school. Students should also bring their chargers to school.

The PSAT is great practice for the SAT. Their score on the PSAT will unlock a free personalized SAT study plan on Khan Academy. In addition, students receive free college planning tools to help them start their college search as well as feedback on the types of AP courses for which they may be particularly well prepared. Taking these college-level classes can help students earn college credit while still in high school and provide them with a competitive advantage in the college admission process. The PSAT/NMSQT offers juniors the opportunity to enter competitions for college scholarships.

Please note that this will be an early dismissal day. Students will be dismissed after testing. For the most part, students will be released by 11:30 a.m. approximately. Students with 50% extended time, will be dismissed no later than 12:30 p.m., and those with 100% will be released no later than 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be available for all students.

Seniors are not to report to campus since all students in grades 9-11 will be testing. Seniors have a scheduled class photo at 9 a.m., the location will be sent out by Mrs. Plyler and Mr. Castaneda. Seniors should also use the day to work independently off campus on college applications.
