Elementary School Students Vote for Best Cookie of 2020

On election day this year, elementary school students at Westminster voted for the best cookie of 2020.
The candidates were Chips Ahoy and Oreo. The event was organized by elementary school teachers and staff. The students were provided with voter registration cards and, moments later, they were allowed to cast their ballots for their favorite cookie. Students from Mrs. Cocchiaro's class kicked off the event by leading the pledge to the American flag and to the Christian flag. Westminster's orchestra and choir students set the mood by dazzling everyone with patriotic songs. A special prayer was also said before students began voting.

Once the students finished voicing their opinions at the polls, they were each provided with an 'I voted' sticker. This event was part of an educational series on the voting process in the United States. Students have been learning about voting requirements and were also asked to list the pros and cons of each candidate prior to voting day.

Thank you to Mrs. Belvedere for spearheading the event and to all of those that participated!
