Emerald Scholars
Who is An Emerald Scholar?
The Emerald Scholars program at Westminster Christian School is designed for exceptional high school students who are driven to seek challenge and enrichment in their academic coursework. An Emerald Scholar will enroll in the School’s most challenging courses, and will benefit from participation in exclusive enrichment activities such as internships, independent research, service projects, and more.
Emerald Scholars will graduate as Christian leaders prepared to think critically, collaborate effectively, seek innovative solutions, and be examples of excellence in their communities. Students who fulfill the requirements of an Emerald Scholar will graduate from Westminster Christian School with the special designation "Emerald Scholar" and receive a distinctive seal on their diploma, recognition at commencement, as well as commemorative ring.

Nathan Jones '23 shared about his internship, "As someone who wants to go into business in college, this internship with AvAirPros in Naples was very beneficial as it gave me a deeper understanding of the various responsibilities that come with running a business. My supervisor was the CEO and CFO, Paul Demkovich, and he walked me through his crucial role as a leader in the business. He also introduced me to the many other people in the office, where I learned more specifically about their roles in keeping the business running. Because this was right up my alley, I enjoyed learning the various aspects of running a business by seeing it first-hand which wouldn’t be easily learned in a classroom environment.”

Andie Hernandez '23 recently worked with Senior Vice President Drew Kern '90 at Berkshire Hathaway and had this to say about her experience: "I attended open houses and closings. I also sat in on meetings to understand the exchange between a realtor and a customer, met with brokers, and reviewed the financing of properties. This was an invaluable experience for me and I am very appreciative to Mr. Kern." -
Brandon Micali '23 interned with Kevin Berman, a financial consultant with Thrivent Financial and had this to say about his experience, “I learned about savings and planning, and the forms of investment that can be used to earn money over time. Mr. Berman allowed me to join a Zoom meeting to observe how Thrivent communicates within the company. The most important thing I learned was that when being a financial adviser, having a good relationship with your clients is just as important as the actual management of profits and savings.” -
Natalie Pineda '23 interned with Dr. Alex Trujillo at Simply Smiles Dentistry and had this to say, “I learned so much about dentistry through this opportunity. Dr. Trujillo and the entire staff at Simply Smiles were very welcoming. I was able to observe the doctor perform many dental procedures including fillings, crowns, cleanings, and extractions. My favorite part was the interactions with the patients, especially the kids.”
